In the grand scheme of things, I’m not typically short on words. However, I do get bored from time to time and need a gentle push in the write direction. See what I did there? Eh, ok, moving on. I am taking up a prompt today. The prompt says, (in a Chris Hemsworth as Thor voice?) Tell us about the first time you held a camera. I’m sorry, what?

I’m not sure when the first time I held a camera was… but I used to dress my dalmatian, Daisy, up in weird hats and shirts or put sunglasses on her and then take pictures of her. I used to put two chairs together and drape a sheet over them as a backdrop too. Daisy would let me do anything to her I swear it. She was such a good sport. That was back when disposible camera’s were the only way anyone could get a hold of a camera cheaply enough. Unless you shelled out for a 35mm and some did. Polaroids were being back then and I actually have two… one is a Barbie one my mom got me to take pictures of Daisy with… so I’d stop stealing hers. The other I got at a thrift store in high school, where again Polaroids were the trendy thing. I’ve got all of those Polaroids still but none of the old ones from my childhood. I do have lots of old photographs though. I loved being in and taking photos as a kid.

I know when I developed a love for photography and thought I’d try and do it professionally. I was working for a media company and discovered I could see concerts and bands I love for free if I got a press pass and shot them. So I started photographing them and putting them on Buzznet & my tumblr under “Sara Ivy Photography.” I went out daily for like 6 months just trying to capture images and improve. I didn’t. I never stick with things for very long. I’m a professional quitter. I still have a nice and fancy camera, unlike the one in the shots below.

I mean, c’mon. Someone has to have a problem with these. They are ridiculous. Face all scrunched up, press pass hanging from the strap. It didn’t even have a detachable lens. Took this is the library bathroom at Woodbury University in Burbank. I went there for all of a semester and had a super fun photoshoot in the almost always empty book rooms. The library used to be a church, and the rooms below were the nuns quarters. Fun facts right?! Also, if you’d like to laugh my tumblr is still up! Just make sure you click on the photo & select high res view – otherwise they look really bad. I mean, some of them are but, you know, help me save some of my street cred yeah?

But basically all I did was pretend to be awesome and it kind of stinks because that takes away from photographers who are actually very good. It’s just a hobby thing right now. I could never charge money for my work. It’s not that good. People have said that you can make a good income from taking photo’s and submitting them to stock websites but I don’t do portrait work and I’m more candids, landscapes and scenery. There’s 7 bajillion photo’s of a flower. Mine won’t be any better than some other flower photo. So I’ll just keep it for me.

Also, going to leave a few gems for you. xoxo
