I have an upcoming trip planned for my sisters wedding and being that I’ll be traveling to Nebraska with nothing but a carry-on it means I’ll have to make some sacrifices on what I bring. It got me thinking: what can I simply not live without and what do I always seem to take with me? Whether I’m traveling for business or pleasure, these are my 5 Must-Have Travel Items.

Toiletry Bag $20 by Girrl Scout
1. Toiletry bag – A girl must have her goodies. I use my trusty little orange bathroom tote for the longer visits, I have another compact one for shorter visits. It fits all the things I need, mainly because I use these beauty hacks I previously told you about. I have tons of little make up bags of different shapes and sizes that I take with me to keep all my bags organized.

Unicorn Sleep Mask $27 by GlossvintSleep on Etsy
2. Sleep Mask + Ear Plugs – You never know what you might encounter, or where you may have to lay your head and catch a few Z’s. It will be made simpler if you can block out light and sound; especially if you have to sleep on a plane, in a car or heaven forbid an airport because you’re grounded somewhere and cannot afford a hotel or one simply can’t be booked. It has happened to me before. Sometimes you also get a noisy hotel. I’m a light sleeper so I need the room to be dark and there to be little to no noise and these have saved me, even living in my apartment.

Laundry Bag: $8 from Everlong Events on Etsy
3. Laundry Bag – This one is a big one. If you’re on a long vacation and there isn’t a place to do laundry you really do not want your old dirty clothes to stink up your clean clothes. I often pack plastic baggies but not everything can fit in there. I bought a luggage set at Walmart that came with a laundry bag and a shoe bag. I keep the laundry bag and the shoe bag in my weekender and have scented dryer sheet in both. I don’t think the smell can permeate through, but I won’t take the chance!

Unicorn Mini Power Bank $15 on Amazon
4. Power Bank – Cellphones and other devices can be recharged with power banks and they are relatively small. Cellphones can go into places camera’s can’t. For example, when I went into the Torture Exhibit at the Museum of Man in San Diego. You weren’t allowed to take in camera’s, but I snuck a few Instagram photo’s of some pretty cool devices. I have an iPhone and even if you don’t you’ve heard the stories of how quickly those batteries die. So I keep a power bank charged up at all times and in my purse. You never know when you might need it!

Custom Passport Case: Starting at $9.90 from Llena Luna on Etsy
5. Passport Case – For international travel it is essential to have your passport with you. You do not have to cover it, it’s optional but for me not so much. I also bring my passport with me during domestic travel. I like to leave it in my hotel at the front desk or leave my ID and keep my passport with me. Just in case I was to lose my ID or have my bag stolen I would still have a backup piece of ID for getting on and off the plane or getting around.
